Grand Hotel is the most famous hotel in the city, with the longest history in Łódź, which has been operating continuously for 135 years. The massive building, built in the second half of the 19th century, has a complicated history and is the only one that has survived to this day. One of the advantages of the famous Grand Hotel is its location. The hotel is located in the heart of Łódź, on the city's main street - the famous Piotrkowska Street. From here, everything is close, which will allow you to save time, which is so valuable today. Taxi ranks, a network of bus and tram stops, a modern Łódź Fabryczna railway station, strategic points of the city, tourist and cultural attractions - everything at your fingertips.
1888
At 72 Piotrowska street Grand Hotel Lodz is the most famous and historic hotel in the city. It has been housing guests for 129 years. From the beginning the hotel was representing prestige and elegance. For many years it has been an important part of Lodz and contributing to its history. The building was created in the second half of the 19th century and is the last one that remained. Between 1887 – 88 the building was redesigned to a hotel by Ludwik Meyer. It gained a neorenaissance look and the entrance was decorated with 3 antique statues.
1911
The next remodeling happened between 1911 and 1913 under the supervision of Dawid Lande. The main changes were raising the building with a huge mansard roof with dormers and a signature. Most probably the Malinowa (Raspberry) and Złota (Gold) rooms have been decorated during this time too. The last significant remodels took place after a fire in 1942 which included a superstructure of the highest floor, simplifying the interior and general changes of the layout.
1944
During the communist era Grand became a part of Orbis hotel group, remaining a center for art and culture. In the beautiful restaurant rooms, one could run into Beata Tyszkiewicz, Janusz Gajos, Daniel Olbrychski or Jan Machulski, whose special connection to the hotel lead to naming some of the suites after them. The pavement surrounding the hotel is decorated with the Lodz Stars – memorials to famous stars of polish cinema. It’s a reminder about Lodz’s rich connection to cinematography.
2010
From the beginning the hotel was representing prestige and elegance. For many years it has been an important part of Lodz and contributing to its history. In 2010 the hotel became a part of Likus Hotels and Restaurants Group. In order to keep the history and tradition of the hotel going, it was intentional to leave it in the current state.
